Background and early life

Lukáš Zeman, born 10th of May 1983, is a Czech baritone.Lukáš started his music career when he was only 6 years old. After being charmed with Smetana’s Bartered Bride and Mozart’s Magic Flute, he joined Prague’s children choir and in few years he was already singing Tosca, The Jakobin, La Gioconda on various stages across Czech Republic. Further on, he nurtured and grown his talent in Salzburg Mozarteum, the Conservatorium in Amsterdam, got his Masters in Dutch National Opera Studio and did a postgraduate in Florence.Additional to singing, Lukáš also studied conducting and playing the bassoon.
He speaks Czech, German, Italian, English, Dutch and French.

Background and early life

Czech baritone Lukáš Zeman achieved high recognition on the European operatic stages.
His professional career debut was in Komische Oper Berlin in 2005. Since then, he sang at venues such as La Scala (Milano), Teatro Maggio (Firenze), Teatro Regio (Torino), Teatro Verdi (Pisa) and Lyon Opera House.At the Hague Royal Conservatory he performed as Don Quijot in Manuel de Falla’s El retablo de maese Pedro and Guglielmo in Mozart’s Così fan tutte.
In 2011 he made his debut on Italian stage as Marco in Gianni Schicchi by Giacommo Pucinni directed by Francesco Torrigiani and later on played Slook in La Cambiale Matrimonio by Gioachino Rossini. Before leaving Italy he played the role of the Parückenmacher in Ariadne auf Naxos by Richard Strauss on the stage of Cantiere Montepulciano.

In 2012 he debuted at the Dutch National Opera Academy assuming 4 roles (Chat, Fauteuil, Horologe, Arbre) in Maurice Ravel’s l´Enfatnt et les Sortilèges. The same year he performed in Mozart’s La finta giardiniera as Nardo. Spain followed, with the role of Phinée in Persée on the stage of Teatro Municipal Almagro, then Denmark at the Aalborg Opera Festival and at the Kobenhaven Early Music festival.​Upon returning to Netherlands, he performed in NJO Festival as Nat Ackerman in Death Nocks by Christian Jost. Then he embraced a much desired role of Il Conte in Mozart’s Nozze di Figaro to great critical acclaim. The production was staged by Alexander Oliver and conducted by Richard Eggar.​In 2013-2015 he performed on Italy’s most prestigious stages: In Teatro di Pisa he played a double role (Crespel and Luther) in Les contes d´Hoffmann conducted by Guy Condette and in Scala di Milano as Soldat in Zimmerman’s Die Soldaten, conducted by I. Metzmacher. Additionally he played Enrico in L´Isola disabitata in Collevechio and Ridicule in L´amour des trois oranges on the old stage of Teatro Maggio in Firenze.​In late 2015 he debuted at the Cracow Opera as Jonek in Stanisław Moniuszko’s Halka and a year later in Ireland where he joined the “young fleet” at Wexford Opera Festival.In 2017 he returned to Italy where, on the stage of Teatro Regio di Torino he assumed the role of Kuligin in Leoš Janáček’s Káťa Kabanová staged by Robert Carsen.
Also in 2017 he made his debut in the leading role in L’Ulisse in Palazzo Albergati, Bologna to great critical acclaim.
The “vocal of large format” as he’s been referred to by critiques, had a notable performance on Czech stage of Opava as Oreste in Ifigénie na Tauridě in early 2018.
